> Masonry is sold by the day and lost by the day. A retaining wall quoted at four days, a morning when mortar will not cure below freezing, a pallet of block the yard wants paid before it leaves, and a helper on a day rate whether the wall goes up or not. We compared six iPhone apps on whether they record which days went into which wall, keep the yard receipt with it, and collect the deposit before the truck is loaded.

## Quick answer

Quick answer: Workyard is the best fit for a masonry contractor who pays a crew and needs GPS-verified time cards, and Probuild for a small team sharing project timesheets. ContractorTools suits estimates priced from a costbook. For the mason who lays block or brick with a helper at most and bills their own customers, iTimeSheet is our pick: hours per wall and stage, yard receipts on the job, and a deposit invoice before the material order.

The hours a mason cannot account for become the hours they do not bill. A footing in the morning and a chimney repair in the afternoon must add up to the day actually worked, and a frost day on a four-day wall should be visible on day five, not discovered when the invoice is written. Most apps either track a crew for payroll or produce estimates; few connect the day, the material and the bill for one person.

We compared six apps from the US App Store on the criteria below, using each listing's own description and ratings dated at the top of the page. iTimeSheet is our app; it was held to the same criteria, including the fact that its rates are hourly and it has no day-rate field.

## What to look for

We ranked for a trade that bills by the day, buys heavy material up front and loses days to weather.

- **Days that add up** — A footing in the morning and a chimney in the afternoon should sum to the day, with no holes. Switching jobs must not lose the running entry, and a forgotten one should be easy to add by hand.
- **A deposit before the pallet** — Block, brick and mortar are paid at the yard. The accepted estimate should turn into a deposit invoice before the truck is loaded.
- **Yard receipts on the wall they built** — Each delivery belongs to one job. Pinned there, it ends up on the invoice; left in the door pocket, it does not.
- **Weather days visible while the job is open** — A four-day wall that took six because of frost is a conversation to have on day five, with the hours in front of you.
- **Gloves on, phone away** — Starting and switching from the Watch matters on a scaffold. A timer that needs a clean thumb on a screen will not be started at 7 am.

## The ranking

### 1. iTimeSheet: Best for masons billing their own jobs — <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/itimesheet-hours-invoices/id287629482>

_5.0 ★ · 1 ratings · US App Store_

**Hours per wall, the yard receipt beside them, the deposit before the block arrives**

For a mason, the Client, Mission and Task tree reads as customer, job and stage: footing, block, cap and pointing. The hourly rate goes on the customer, with an override on a stage or a single entry for a Saturday; there is no day-rate field, so a day rate is expressed as an hourly one. The timer starts from the app or the Apple Watch, and on Pro from the Lock Screen or a widget; switching from the footing to the chimney saves the first entry with its duration, and a forgotten start is added by hand from Today. Week view shows the time per job, with frost days showing as the gaps they are.

On Studio, the estimate is a quote with its own ledger; once accepted, a deposit invoice at 20, 30 or 50 percent goes out before the block is ordered, and when the cap is on, the quote converts to the final invoice in one tap with a logo, numbering, the US layout and bank details. The final invoice does not deduct the deposit automatically, so it is accounted for by hand. Yard receipts are expenses on the job: a Materials category is created once, since none of the fourteen Pro presets covers materials, then each ticket is photographed and attached on Pro. Overdue invoices come with a pre-filled chase e-mail.

There is no account and no vendor server; data sits in a local database, with manual iCloud backup on every tier and automatic daily backup from Essential. The limits: one user, so no crew time cards and no GPS check-in; iPhone and Apple Watch only, no iPad yet; no e-signature on quotes, no card payments and no accounting connector beyond CSV.

- **Strengths:** Switching jobs saves the previous entry; forgotten ones go in by hand from Today; Quote, deposit invoice, final invoice and credit note on Studio; Yard receipts photographed and attached to the job on Pro; No account and no vendor cloud; Watch taps queue offline and are backdated
- **Limits:** No crew time cards or GPS check-in: single user; Hourly rates only, no day-rate field, and no materials preset; iPhone and Apple Watch only; no web, no iPad yet, no Android; One US rating since the July 2026 relaunch
- **Best for:** A self-employed mason, alone or with one helper, who estimates, orders, builds and invoices their own jobs.
- **Pricing:** Free covers 3 customers and 2 entries a day, with no export. Essential is $4.99/mo or $29.99/yr for unlimited entries, reports, CSV and PDF export, and daily iCloud backup. Pro is $7.99/mo or $59.99/yr for receipt photos and widgets. Studio is $9.99/mo or $89.99/yr for quotes, deposits and invoices; it has no free trial, but a watermarked invoice preview shows the PDF with your real data first.

> ★★★★★ **Znakomity** — « Pauzowanie już jest.
Znakomicie sprawdza się do rejestrowania czasu pracy.

Fajne jest to, że kolejne zadanie defaultowo "dosuwane" jest do ostatniego w danym dniu i nie ma dziur. Polecam. »

> (translated from Polish: Pausing is already there. It works excellently for recording working time. The nice thing is that the next task is by default "pushed up" against the last one of the day, so there are no gaps. I recommend it.)

### 2. Workyard: Best for crews on day rates

_Workyard Pty Ltd · 4.0 ★ · 243 ratings · US App Store_

**GPS time cards for a construction crew**

Workyard is built for the owner who manages a crew: GPS time cards per worker and site, ready for payroll, on a subscription with an account. It does not invoice, and its US rating is 4.0 on 243 ratings as of the date above. For three helpers on day rates across two sites, it answers a question iTimeSheet does not attempt.

- **Strengths:** GPS time cards per worker and site; Built for crew payroll; Owner's view across sites
- **Limits:** No invoicing; Subscription and account; vendor cloud; Lower US rating than others here
- **Best for:** A masonry contractor paying a crew by the day who needs verified time cards.
- **Pricing:** Subscription

### 3. Probuild: Best for small masonry teams

_Probuild Software Inc. · 4.9 ★ · 401 ratings · US App Store_

**Projects, estimates, invoices, timesheets and team messages**

Probuild puts a contractor's projects, estimates, invoices, timesheets and team messages in one account, on a subscription, and it is highly rated on a few hundred US ratings. It thinks in projects shared by a team, which suits a mason with two or three people on a job better than one working alone.

- **Strengths:** Estimates, invoices and timesheets in one place; Team messages on the project; Well rated on the US store
- **Limits:** Subscription and account required; Data on the vendor's servers; Heavier than a solo mason needs
- **Best for:** A small masonry outfit with a team that wants estimates, invoices and shared timesheets together.
- **Pricing:** Subscription

### 4. Buildertrend: Best for general contractors

_Buildertrend Solutions, Inc. · 4.5 ★ · 5,109 ratings · US App Store_

**Construction management for builders, priced for firms**

Buildertrend runs construction projects for builders, with portals for clients and subcontractors, at a price set for firms. A subcontracting mason may well be invited into someone else's Buildertrend; buying it as a sole mason means paying a firm's price for portals nobody else uses.

- **Strengths:** Client and subcontractor portals; Full project management; Large US rating base
- **Limits:** Priced for firms; Account and vendor cloud; Not a personal time or invoice tool
- **Best for:** A builder or general contractor coordinating subs and clients on full projects.
- **Pricing:** Subscription

### 5. ContractorTools: Best for costbook estimates

_Contractor Tools LLC · 4.8 ★ · 1,764 ratings · US App Store_

**Estimates from a costbook, signed on site**

ContractorTools builds estimates from templates and costbooks, takes the signature on site and invoices, on Apple devices only, with a subscription and an optional account. A costbook of block, mortar and rebar prices is something iTimeSheet does not have; time tracking is something ContractorTools does not do.

- **Strengths:** Templates and costbooks; On-site signature; Invoices from the estimate
- **Limits:** No time tracking; Subscription; Apple-only
- **Best for:** A mason who prices from a costbook and wants the estimate signed before ordering.
- **Pricing:** Subscription

### 6. HoursTracker: Best for masons on someone else's crew

_Cribasoft, LLC · 4.8 ★ · 56,323 ratings · US App Store_

**A clock with a geofence, for the employed mason**

HoursTracker logs jobs, breaks and pay, exports CSV and can remind you to clock in at a saved site. It has more than fifty thousand US ratings and an optional account used only for backup. It has no invoices and no receipts, which is fine when someone else pays you.

- **Strengths:** Geofenced clock-in reminders; Breaks, pay and CSV export; Account optional
- **Limits:** No invoicing; No receipt photos; Flat job list
- **Best for:** An employed mason keeping proof of hours and overtime.
- **Pricing:** Free with in-app purchase

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the best time tracking app for masons?

For a contractor paying a crew, Workyard provides GPS time cards and Probuild shared project timesheets. For costbook estimates, ContractorTools. For an employed mason, HoursTracker. For the self-employed mason who estimates and invoices directly, we rank iTimeSheet first: hours per wall and stage, yard receipts on the job and a deposit before materials, all on the phone without an account.

### Does it work on a site with no signal?

iTimeSheet does. Everything is stored on the phone, so the timer and entries never wait for a network. The Apple Watch queues taps when away from the phone and backdates them on reconnection. A connection is only needed for the iCloud backup and the App Store purchase.

### Where is the customer list kept?

In iTimeSheet, in a local SQLite database on the iPhone, with no account, no vendor server, no analytics SDK and no ads. Backup is one file in the user's own iCloud Drive, visible in Files, written daily from Essential. Workyard, Probuild and Buildertrend require an account and keep data on their servers.

### How does a deposit before materials work?

In iTimeSheet Studio, the quote has its own numbering. Once the customer accepts, a deposit invoice at 20, 30 or 50 percent of the quote is issued as a PDF. When the job is finished, the quote converts to the final invoice in one tap, and a credit note cancels an invoice sent in error. Deposits are not deducted automatically on the final invoice, so they are accounted for with a line or a note.

### What does a masonry invoice need in the US?

There is no national list of mandatory invoice fields in the US beyond identifying the business, the customer, the work and the amount; sales tax on materials depends on the state. iTimeSheet's Studio tier uses a US layout with yearly sequential numbering, the customer's billing profile, payment terms and bank details, without computing sales tax.

### Can the app track a helper paid by the day?

Not in iTimeSheet as a second person, since it is single-user. The job's hours can be logged from your own wrist, with the helper's days kept in a separate record, or the helper can run the app on their own phone and send a CSV. For several workers with verified time cards, Workyard is built for that. iTimeSheet costs nothing for 3 customers, then $4.99/mo for Essential up to $9.99/mo for Studio on the US store.

## The bottom line

With a crew on day rates, Workyard or Probuild do what a single-user app cannot, and Buildertrend belongs to the builder running the whole project. For costbook pricing, ContractorTools is worth a look, and an employed mason can stop at HoursTracker.

For the mason who is the business, iTimeSheet is the first install: the hours per wall add up without holes, the yard ticket sits on the job, and the deposit goes out before the block does, all on the phone with no account.
